“We are a small school, and are trying out virtual education for this year.  Our intention is to expand next year for all of the 7th and 8th grades.  This will allow us to offer the middle school grades in a cost-effective manner.  I’m finding our students are working very well in the virtual environment.  They are able to delve deeper into the subject matter, and in the case of the eighth grader, are able to earn high school credit in Psychology and Biology.  They are also able to time-shift their classes somewhat, in order to participate in school-wide activities without the penalty of getting behind in their work.

I’m finding that my students are more engaged, contributing more by using the discussion boards.  They are ‘owning’ their work more than previously, engaging their teachers quite often.  As I mentioned earlier, I’ve got one student earning high school credit, so I’m experiencing a definite positive impact in their performance.  Please feel free to contact me at any time to discuss our experience further.”

“This is our second year using virtual classes for our students.  The improvements in student performance are most evident in languages and social studies.  Science is also improving.  I see online education becoming increasingly important—we are already seeing this widespread at the collegiate level, and it’s imperative that we prepare our students in middle and high school to be able to maximize their utilization of this technology for success in college and beyond.”

- Erin Finn, Principal, St. Francis Xavier Catholic School

“Our school is a brand-new school, just opening this year.  We are using the online classes to fill in where we have a staffing shortfall; we have several students who need Algebra II as sophomores, and we currently have a freshman and a sophomore class, with the plan to add a grade each year over the next two years; so we are not staffed for Algebra II for this year.  The students are doing very well in the class, particularly the ones who are self-driven.  They are taking their class on-site during their regular math period.  They are enjoying their class very much, and they are doing well in it.  This has been a great solution for us as a growing school.”
